I got a chip on my shoulder. My dreams changed as I got older. I grew up when I got sober. I got over all the pressures of tomorrow because familiar turned to sorrow. Back burner dreams I followed; I couldn't swallow. I'd be catching the blade of my own mistakes if I didn't chase what I was made to do.
So I'm making a clean break, a clean break. Let the past be the past. Nothing holding me back. A clean break.
I cleaned out all my closets. All the drama; I forgot it. Like the history of a town that never noticed me. If home is where the heart is and my heart's across an ocean. The channel tidal pulling me in. I'd be catching the blade of my own mistakes if I didn't chase what I was made to do.

I've given my heart away one too many times but I was never let down without putting up a fight. There are times when all I do is sit and cry and for awhile now I've been drinking every night.
But that doesn't make me a bad person now does it? We all have troubles from time to time and I like to think I'm just like everybody else. The way I see it I'm just finding myself.
What does it mean when my wine tastes like water and what does it mean when I feel no pain? Why do I now see all the men in my life like they are prizes that I want to be mine?

There's so many roads I don't know which one to choose. Doesn't really matter because I've got nothing to lose.
Now would you believe me if I said I've moved on and that from this experience I really have grown. I'm sure there will still be times when all I do is sit and cry but it's good to know now that I still got my wine :)

When the spotlight leaves me feeling so exposed. Try to cover up the evidence of last night's rock and roll. When the smoke clears and the dust finally settles down I see the truth in front of me that I've been dancing around.
Standing on the other side looking back from where I came and the green of the grass I'm on is the same shade. When love doesn't feel like I thought it would is like the day when my whiskey no longer tasted good.
Could've fooled me if you said that I'd be here with these battle scars and a pipe dream that so humbly disappeared. Maybe what I wanted isn't what I need. Part of learning how to fight is knowing that you're gonna bleed.

Somewhere in the middle where people go to meet, there standing in the darkness you found me. I took your hand. Something told me it was time to go and happily and blindly, I followed. I had to learn the hard way.
Peace is not given. It's something that you fight to find and I've found no armor strong enough to protect me from my mind. All of these roads that I've taken make me break my heart again. I gotta let myself be free and let my life begin. I had to learn the hard way.

I know what it means when you tell me you love me. I feel the smile that it puts on my face. I'm not gonna run from this feeling inside me. Feels so warm and safe in this place.
Walking on air. It's all around us. Doesn't matter that you're so far. My head in the clouds has never been so clear. Oh it feels like the right place to start.
The world is so bright and the darkness is gone. I'm hearing much happier songs. A new love can begin since I found my joy within. I'm feeling good in my new skin.

There's a place in my mind where I go to be free. And in that place, deep in my mind, no one is allowed there but me. It's a place to get away from the pain in this world and I can tell all of the secrets that I have been told.
Somewhere between what's fake and what's real is where I find myself beginning to feel. Somewhere beyond where that line is drawn is where my soul wants me to carry on. It took some time for me to see that you're the one to make me believe.
Now maybe it's time to let down my guard; the one that surrounds my heart. You see I left it there for a long time waiting on someone to help me see the light. So many times for my sins I had to pay but with you it's so much easier to find my way.
